Who is Imam Ali?
Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as) known as Imam Ali and Commander of the Faithful (13 Rajab, 23 BC - 21 Ramadan, 40 AH), is the first imam of all Shia schools, and the fourth caliph among the Sunnis. He is also the cousin and son-in-law of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), husband of Hazrat Fatima (PBUH), father and grandfather of eleven Shia Imams. His father was Abu Talib and his mother was Fatima Bint Asad. According to Shia scholars and many Sunni scholars, he was born in the Kaaba and was the first man to believe in the Prophet of Islam. According to the Shia, Ali (as) is the immediate successor of the Messenger of God (PBUH) by the command of God and the Prophet (PBUH).
Many virtues have been listed for Imam Ali (as); The Prophet (PBUH) chose him as his executor and successor on the Day of Al-Dar. When the Quraish were planning to kill the Prophet (PBUH), he slept on the bed of the Prophet (PBUH) so that the Prophet (PBUH) could secretly migrate to Medina. According to Shia sources and some Sunni sources, about 300 verses of the Holy Qur'an are about his virtues, such as the Mubahlah verse, the purification verse, the Wilayat verse and some other verses that indicate his infallibility.
